Fine Art graduate, from the University of Lincoln, currently interested in functions of objects in relation to narratives, bodies and the nature of behaviour.
I look at the issues of the abject and the unheimlich in relation to the glass display case (vitrine). It began by playing around with visceral materials and objects like milk, chocolate, bowls, stools and even bodily fluids. These abject materials are influenced by Helen Chadwick’s Piss Flowers, Mona Hatoum’s orifice projections and George’s Bataille Story of the eye. I want to find out how these materials contaminate a sterile space like the vitrine, and how projected orifices between milk and fluids expose the internal body.
The vitrine is then considered as a bodily container allowing materials to be shown from the outside to the inside of the body. I am interested in this as it opens up possibilities to the transgressive behaviour of materials, and how bodily waste returns back to the inorganic. I want to create a fear and pleasure between object, material, projection and vitrine. As well as smells, and reactions that causes the viewer to interact but also refuse/reject the work.
Currently working on a poem and sculptural project.
